The Kariba Eastern Basin is where Kariba town is based on the Zimbabwean side of the lake. Most houseboats are based out of Kariba town mainland whilst a smaller number are moored in Binga. Kariba mainland offers an eclectic mixture of luxury lodges, self catering lodges and chalets, bush lodges and camps, boutique hotels as well as more "commercial style" hotels.
Fishing! Houseboating , game viewing, visits to places of interest in Kariba town (including the Kariba Dam Wall); curious, boating, water-based adventures and more...
There are numerous conference venues available. Combined with the safari/boating experience, this is team building with a difference.
Our vessels operate on Lake Kariba and whilst most are moored at Kariba town, some boats are available from Binga, and one from Siavonga which is the Zambian side of the lake. All rates are on application as these can be changeable according to time of year, specials, wet or dry boat, catering etc. However, a price range is indicated.
As there are often a lot of queries involved with "first time house boater's" - we have created a Google Form at the end of the houseboat section. This will help us to give you an accurate quotation based on your dates of travel.
Discover the incredible marine side of Zimbo Safaris on a houseboat charter. Explore exciting game fishing, beautiful sunrises and sundowners on board one of the most unique tourist facilities in the world - a houseboat.

Lake Kariba is renowned for its fishing, with bream and tigerfish being the main catches.
The captain will take you to fishing hotspots, and the chef can grill or braai your catch of the day!
A lot of the bigger vessels have swimming pools, sun decks to soak up the African sun, and plenty of space to rest, and relax!
Many boats are in radio communication with each other and often share where the fish are "biting" or an exciting lion kill on the lake shore. A wonderful birding and photography platform.
We may quote you a wet or dry boat rate. A wet rate is inclusive of fuel for the houseboat; whilst a dry boat means that you refuel after your charter according to what you have used.
Consumption may vary according to the size of the vessel and facilities i.e. air conditioned may use more fuel.
Please use the Google Form below and state your wet/dry rate preference. Whilst a wet boat may make it easier to budget, you will be subject to route limitations; and not all vessels offer a choice. A dry boat may give you more charter freedom, however the fuel consumption would only be an estimate and you would need to prepare to refuel after charter. This can cause a slight delay on disembarking. There are pro's and con's to both that can be discussed on booking.
Please note that some boats dot not offer the option | but we advise you of this on enquiry.
Most Houseboats can be hired on a self-catering basis whereby guest bring their own food and drinks on board. Meals are prepared by the chef who needs to be guided by your menu and ingredients.
There are facilities to provide catering whereby you need not worry about food items; these will be provided and there are usually a few menu options to choose from.
Drinks, ice and bait can be included for fully inclusive charters and most boats can provide fishing equipment if you do not have your own.
How you would like your charter to be priced is dependent on your preferences and all peripheral requirements can be arranged by Zimbo Safaris.
Please refer to the Google Form to state inclusions and exclusions from your quotation.
Whether you're looking for a small intimate cruise, a family-friendly adventure, or an enormous bachelor party - our travel experts will help you to select the right boat that suits your needs and budget.
There are several transfer options to Kariba for international or regional guests who are not self-driving. There are private charter companies, but presently no commercial airline flight to Kariba town.
All houseboats provide all bedding, cooking and eating utensils, shower (bathroom) facilities and small speed boats for fishing and game viewing.
All houseboats have a captain, a cook and deckhand/s depending on the size of the boat. The crew manage the operation of the vessel in its entirety.
